Energy Crossroads began as a conference arranged by students from Stanford University in March 2007 under the theme “Building a Coalition for a Clean, Prosperous and Secure Energy Future.” After the successful conference, the originators found that there was a good foundation to develop a worldwide organization with exactly this holistic approach: there should not be as forceful a focus on how bad circumstances were, but instead the focus should be moved to concrete, long-term solutions. Energy Crossroads is driven by volunteer labour from the upcoming generation; it is completely independent politically and has the scientific world as its starting point. In Denmark, Energy Crossroads is officially supported by the Headmasterships at the Technical University of Denmark, Copenhagen University and Copenhagen Business School, but has at the same time kept its governance by the students. Since February 8, The Danish chapter has worked toward the realization of CO2PENHAGEN and has developed itself into a locomotive for the rest of the organization, with a broad portfolio of concrete projects and arrangements in relation to COP15.
